Disability Equality Matters

The course is delivered by eLearning or Instructor Led Workshop.

This modular learning experience has in-depth content and resources. The course allows the student to fully appreciate Disability Awareness & the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Acts (DDA) and the Disability Equality Duty (DED) for public authorities. The student will understand how the law impacts on employment and the provision of goods & services in both private & public sectors. Disability Equality Matters is the definitive training solution for managers seeking guidance on how "reasonable adjustments" will shape their organisation's diversity and equality culture and how they can attain compliance with the Law:

The course will show students:

  • How their organisation is affected by the DDA
  • The legalities involved in compliance
  • How services can be made more available
  • How communication and interaction can be improved towards people with disabilities
  • How the student can personally comply

On completion of this course, the student will be fully aware of all aspects of people's impairments and the disability legislation and will have a personal or team action plan by virtue of the unique Learning Log resource.

Age Equality Matters

The course is delivered by eLearning or Instructor Led Workshop.

Using a consistent learning approach to Disability Equality Matters, this course will guide the student through the challenges which surround this legislation. Modular in format, this course addresses the various areas where age discrimination may take place and includes modules on the following subjects.

  • Recruitment
  • Staff Training, Promotion and Development
  • Retirement
  • Exceptions and Exemptions to the Regulations
  • Guidance for individual employees
  • Guidance for employers.

On completion of the course the student will be fully aware of the age regulations and how it affects him/her as an employee or an employer.

Gender Equality Matters

The course is delivered by eLearning or Instructor Led Workshop.

Again using a consistent format, this course will guide the student through the gender legislation, and show him/her how to address and prepare a Gender Equality Duty (required for public authorities). By the end of this course the student will a have learnt about specific rights for employees particularly in the following areas:

  • Pregnancy and maternity matters
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Equal Pay
  • Family friendly and part time working
  • Recruitment and selection
  • Redundancy and dismissal
  • Workplace relationships
  • Workplace dress codes
  • Transexualism

The course also takes a comprehensive look at discrimination as a consumer when buying goods or using facilities or services, and also looks at discrimination in education.

On completion of the course the student will be fully aware of the gender regulations and how it affects him/her.

Religion Equality Matters

The course is delivered by eLearning or Instructor Led Workshop.

This course takes an in-depth look at the regulations and guidance surrounding religion in the workplace. It looks at various religions throughout the world and how compliance with those religious beliefs may at times unwittingly cause conflict with workplace practices.

The course covers how the anti-discrimination Laws were formed and what they cover, in particular:

  • An overview of the world's major religions
  • Their beliefs and details of major festivals
  • How the workplace may be affected
  • The employment tribunal procedure

The course will highlight the various ways that this form of discrimination may manifest itself, and how to address this discrimination via complaint. The student will learn how to avoid discrimination in their workplace in recruitment, retention and progression of staff and also how specific rights may affect them.

On completion of the course the student will be fully aware of the regulations and guidance around religion and how it affects him/her.

Race Equality Matters

The course is delivered by eLearning or Instructor Led Workshop.

This course deals with racial discrimination and in particular addresses:

  • What is racial discrimination?
  • How and when the various Laws were formed
  • Race Equality Schemes
  • Exemptions to racial discrimination
  • Glossary of terms
  • Different forms of racial discrimination
  • Statutory duties on public authorities.

On completion of the course the student will be fully conversant with the race discrimination legislation, how the laws were formed and implemented, and how the legislation can affect him/her within and without the workplace.

Sexual Orientation Equality Matters

The course is delivered by eLearning or Instructor Led Workshop.

This course deals with sexual orientation and in particular:

  • What is sexual orientation discrimination?
  • How and when the Law was formed?
  • Glossary of terms - What is meant by the terms sexual orientation, gay lesbian, bisexual etc.
  • Single Equality Schemes
  • Different forms of sexual orientation discrimination
  • Exemptions to sexual orientation discrimination

On completion of the course the student will be fully aware of the laws relating to discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and how to relate those laws to their everyday situation.

Single Equality Matters

The course is delivered by eLearning or Instructor Led Workshop.

This course is aimed at students who only require foundation knowledge to comply with the various diversity & equality regulations and guidance. In addition, this course is designed as a prequel to the emerging UK Single Equality Act which is on course for Royal Assent in early 2011. This Act will almost certainly require all public authorities to produce a Single Equality Scheme.

The course will give the student adequate information to become aware of the six strands of diversity.

  • Race
  • Disability
  • Gender
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Age
  • Religion in the Workplace

This course is generally aimed at front line customer facing staff but is very suitable for any grade of staff or managers who require a consolidated summary or "fast track" overview of anti-discrimination guidance & Laws.

It is recommended that any student requiring in-depth knowledge about the six main strands of diversity, should enrol on one of the Equality Matters courses which deal in more detail and independently with Disability, Age, Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation & Religion in the Workplace.
